Google’s Sundar Pichai has posted the above image which lets us all know what the next version of Android will be codenamed. If you can’t tell from the picture alone, it’s KitKat. yeah the chocolate bar we all know of is allowing Google to use the name with subsequent competitions with KitKat bars for Nexus giveaways. The rumored next version was to be called Key Lime Pie however Google have obviously gone with a chocolate variety instead.

Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!

Sundar also announced that Google have surpassed 1 billion activations which is up from the previous announced number of 900 million back in May.
