HTC promised more mid-tier devices and they have come through today at MWC. The HTC Desire 816 includes a pretty big 5.5-inch display with 720p resolution. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU and 1.5GB of RAM. 8GB internal storage with MicroSD slot for expansion. HTC have included a rather large 13MP rear facing camera with a 5MP front facing shooter, keeping in mind this is aimed to be the top of the mid-range devices, so nice to see camera quality may be on the decent side of things.

Other specs include a 2,600mAh battery which is on the rather low side consider the overall size of the device, however it is only 7.99mm think and weights 165g. The device will use the latest nano sim card meaning users will have to get a replacement unless they are coming from the small number of devices that use nano sims. Finally we have front stereo speakers, which with any luck will become a standard trait of HTC’s. Release is set for March in China with a global launch to follow sometime in April. The smartphone will be running HTC Sense 5.5 at launch in China, but will be upgrade to the latest version of HTC sense come the global launch in April Pricing should hopefully be release some before both releases.
