Samasung certainly aren’t pulling any punches with this years MWC, although the lack of any information on the Galaxy SIII at the event is something we all feel is a let down. That being said, They did announce a phone that was not expected at all. The Galaxy Beam is an Android 2.3(assuming update to 4.0 in the future) that packs some decent specs, but mainly has a built in pico projector. While that was done in the best, no manufacture every made a nice slim device, Samsung however can now claim that title as this device comes in at 12.5mm thick.
The device has a 1GHz dual core ST-Ericsson Cortex A9 processor with 768MB of ram, The built in memory is pretty low at 8GB, but also packs a MicroSD slot for increasing your memory. The phone has a resolution of 480×800 and a screen size of 4″. Comes with all the expected connectivity such as BT 3.0＋HS, 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz, MicroUSB, USB 2.0. There is a front facing 1.3MP camera and a rear facing 5MP camera with auto focus. To top it all off, Samsung have included a nice 2000mAh battery. The dimensions are 64.2 x 124 x 12.5mm, 145.3 g
The real reason this device is allowed to be, is because of it’s built in Pico projector, The resolution of which comes in at 640 x 360 and a brightness of 15 lumens. The projector can blast out a screen up to 50″ in size.
There is no doubt that is will be a love it or hate device and really only for very specific people who like the idea of being able to watch there video on a 50″ screen anywhere there is a wall. To be honest, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Check out the press release below for more information.
